DO’s

Do……………..

1)     Current job and more. Identify your key goals, goals of your company and your team and your boss.  If you need training to do the job effectively then discuss this with your boss and put your case. No one will promote you if you are not performing your current job properly.

3)     Network and promote yourself in a non bossy way

4)     Respect time keeping and punctuality

5)     Respect company rules and culture

6)     Cultivate mentor or two in your organization who can champion you without using political capital

8)     Make the boss look good while not appearing to kiss up to him

9)     Develop an attitude of being fair and caring even when delivering tough calls

10) Read the business press for mentors outside the organization. A lot of information is available on the web and business press that is helpful.

12) Make it known to the right people that you are working towards the promotion goal

13)Treat promotion as project. think, Plan, strategize, modify and execute.

16) Keep a record of everything you do. Develop an elevator,  one minute pitch,  for what you do best for your company and  the team

17)   Be a problem solver.  Have optional solutions and your recommendation.

18) Look and create your own opportunities. Every organization has them. Take one or two and do them well.

19) Cultivate a reputation for being dependable, reliable and cooperative. Behave and dress the  professional part at all times.

20) Be loyal,  but test your value by applying for a job outside the organization at least once every two years.
