KUWAIT: The Kuwait Center for Autism (KCA) is now the proud recipient of the European Union’s prestigious Chaillot Prize 2009. On this occasion, Luigi Narbone, the Ambassador, Head of Delegation, EU and his colleagues visited the Center in order to hand over the award. The Center was a finalist for this year’s prize that was organized by the Delegation of the European Commission.
The Chaillot Prize is awarded to organizations that promote the rights of vulnerable groups or those that promote general awareness on human rights in the GCC region.

Dr. Samira Al-Saad, the Founder and Director of the Center welcomed the Ambassador, his colleagues and extended her heartfelt gratitude to the European Union delegates for their support towards encouraging organizations.
The Kuwait Center for Autism, which now ranks among the best international institutions that treats Autism has strengthened its position by winning this award and many others for rendering excellent services to students. “These awards are also added achievements for our beloved country Kuwait, and it is our pleasure to present this prestigious prize to HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah,” she added.

This center is an outstanding center even when compared to those in Europe. This was achieved mainly due to the efforts made by the management of the Center. This will be useful for those that are affected by Autism and their families. It is remarkable,” Narbone told the Kuwait Times.

Currently about 110 students are lodged at the Center including those that enrolled in 1995. It has also recently purchased a plot next adjacent to its premises which covers an area of 2,000 square meters, with aim of expanding the Center so that more students can be accomodated.
